Chuncheon Potato Village Moves to Busan
Potato Field, Potatokyo, and Local Brands All in One Place!
Is Chuncheon coming to Busan? An unusual pop-up store themed around potatoes, the signature agricultural product of Chuncheon in Gangwon Province, is set to open in the heart of downtown Busan.
Lotte Department Store Gwangbok Branch announced on July 22 that it will host the potato-themed pop-up store 'Chuncheon Potato-ur (POTATO-UR)' at the Fountain Square on the first basement level of Aqua Mall from July 25 to August 7.
The store has been designed as a sensory experience space, decorated to resemble a journey through a potato field, allowing visitors to experience Chuncheon's local brands and potato culture all in one place. This is a regional coexistence project jointly prepared by Chuncheon City and the department store.
Numerous local brands dedicated to the potato concept will participate at the site. The Chuncheon potato brand 'Gamjabat', the craft beer brand 'Gamja Island', 'Baksa Village Gom Hotdog' known for its gomchwi-infused dough, and 'Potatokyo', a brand producing potato-themed goods, will collaborate to create a joint pop-up zone called 'Gamja Chronicle'.
Potato-shaped heart props and sculptures, as well as the character 'Fortune' photo zone, will also be available. The space is designed so that a wide range of visitors, from families to the MZ generation seeking Instagram-worthy photos, can enjoy it like a potato theme park.
Jung Jooyoung, head of the food team at Lotte Department Store Gwangbok Branch, emphasized, "This is a cheerful potato-themed pop-up that reinterprets local specialties with a youthful sensibility," adding, "It will be an opportunity to show that you can have such a fun and diverse experience with just potatoes."
