Synergy with Disney+ Original Series Drives 58-Fold Increase in Views

Kakao Entertainment announced on July 22 that the webtoon "Pine" by author Yoon Taeho has seen its view count increase by 58 times and its revenue by 26 times, driven by synergy with the Disney+ original series. The Disney+ original series "Pine: Country Bumpkins" began releasing episodes sequentially on July 16.

Kakao Entertainment stated that the view count for the webtoon "Pine" increased by approximately 58 times in the third week of July compared to the combined total from the third week of June. Revenue also rose by 26 times during the same period, demonstrating the growing enthusiasm for the work.

Kakao Webtoon’s "Pine," which has recorded a cumulative 100 million views and around 22,000 comments, is one of Yoon Taeho’s representative works, alongside "Misaeng," "Moss," and "Orin," all of which vividly depict various aspects of humanity and snapshots of the times.

Produced by Supercomics Studio, the work tells the gripping story of criminals who gather to plunder treasures off the coast of Shinan, weaving their desperate struggles into a compelling narrative.

There is growing interest in the continued synergy between the webtoon and the series. According to FlixPatrol, an OTT platform ranking site, "Pine: Country Bumpkins" ranked first in the Disney+ TV show category in Korea just two days after its release, and reached the top three in a total of three countries, including Japan and Taiwan. In addition, it ranked first in the overall combined series and movie rankings on KinoLights, a domestic OTT search and recommendation platform.

Witty events inspired by the storyline of the webtoon "Pine" are also being held on Kakao Webtoon and Kakao Page. The "Authentic Masterpiece" event, running until July 29, will award various prizes, including a pure gold moon jar object worth 1 million won, to readers who binge-read "Pine" and correctly answer quizzes. Kakao Webtoon will also host the "Yoon Taeho Webtoon Exhibition" until August 18, offering usage passes for readers who have read Yoon Taeho’s representative works, including "Pine."

"Pine: Country Bumpkins" stars actors Ryu Seungryong, Yang Sejong, Lim Soojung, and Kim Euisung. Following the release of episode 3 on July 16, two additional episodes will be released on July 23, two on July 30, two on August 6, and two on August 13.
