Gyeonggi Province has selected ten experiential recreation villages and will provide up to 55 million won in support for each village.
On July 22, Gyeonggi Provincial Government announced that it will implement a support program divided into two categories: the "Rural Revitalization Sector," which supports the hosting of festivals, and the "Experiential Activity Fee Support Sector," which provides assistance for activity fees. The program aims to revitalize the local economies and restore vitality to rural and fishing communities that have lost momentum due to economic downturn and population decline.
The Rural Revitalization Sector targets experiential recreation villages designated under the Act on Promotion of Exchanges between Urban and Rural Areas. The Experiential Activity Fee Support Sector targets experiential recreation villages not participating in the other sector or experiential farms certified or designated by the national or local (provincial or municipal) governments.
For the Rural Revitalization Sector, a presentation-based audition will be held on July 24 at Gyeonggi SangSang Campus in Gwonseon-gu, Suwon, for sixteen applicant villages. Based on the results, the final ten villages will be selected.
The presentation evaluation will comprehensively assess the specificity and creativity of the business plan, organizational capabilities, and potential impact. The ten selected villages will receive up to 55 million won in project funding, depending on their ranking.
For the Experiential Activity Fee Support Sector, each city and county will determine priorities through their own evaluations and provide differentiated support. Discounts will be offered for up to 50% of the activity fee, with a maximum of 10,000 won per participant.
Gyeonggi Provincial Government expects this program to encourage an influx of related populations into rural areas and to vitalize regional tourism, thereby creating a virtuous cycle that leads to increased rural income.
Lee Munmu, Director of Agricultural Policy at Gyeonggi Province, stated, "We launched this program to inject new vitality into the stagnant rural economy, which has been hit by weakened consumer sentiment and rising prices."
