On July 21, President Lee Jaemyung approved the appointment of Kim Younghoon as Minister of Employment and Labor, Kim Sunghwan as Minister of Environment, and Chung Eunkyung as Minister of Health and Welfare.
On the same day, the National Assembly's Environment and Labor Committee and the Health and Welfare Committee adopted confirmation hearing reports for the three nominees during their plenary sessions. The confirmation report for Kim Sunghwan, a three-term incumbent lawmaker, was adopted by bipartisan agreement. However, the reports for Kim Younghoon and Chung Eunkyung were adopted through a vote led by the Democratic Party of Korea.
With the approval of these appointments, the appointment procedures have now been completed for nine out of the eighteen cabinet nominees (excluding the reappointed Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs) designated for the first cabinet.
The ministries with completed ministerial appointments are the Ministry of Economy and Finance, Ministry of Science and ICT, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of the Interior and Safety, Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Ministry of Health and Welfare, Ministry of Environment, and Ministry of Employment and Labor.
