Daegu Junggu District (Mayor Ryu Kyuhah) held a commemorative event on July 21 in the district office lobby to celebrate the recovery of its population to 100,000 after 27 years, sharing the significance of this achievement with local residents.
The event was attended by Ryu Kyuhah, Mayor of Junggu, Kim Donghyun, Chairman of the Junggu District Council, Bae Byungki, Branch Manager of iM Bank Junggu Office, as well as about 50 officials and residents. During the event, the 100,000th new resident was presented with a nameplate, a bouquet of flowers, and commemorative gifts.

Additionally, a participatory commemorative performance was held, including a banner unveiling ceremony and the attachment of puzzle pieces at a photo zone, creating a festive atmosphere in collaboration with the residents.
The 100,000th resident is a three-member family consisting of a couple living in Dongin-dong and their child born in 2023. As of 11 a.m. on July 21, the total population of Junggu stood at 100,005, marking the first time since 1998 that the population has recovered to 100,000. By 2 p.m., the population had further increased to 100,024.
In his congratulatory speech, Ryu Kyuhah, Mayor of Daegu Junggu, stated, "This population recovery was not achieved by administrative efforts alone, but is a valuable accomplishment created by all residents together." He added, "We will continue to revitalize the city and create sustainable living conditions, aiming to make Junggu a city of 100,000 residents where everyone wants to live."
Meanwhile, Daegu Junggu has achieved the highest net population inflow rate among 228 basic local governments nationwide for three consecutive years, despite the ongoing national trend of population decline. The district has promoted urban redevelopment and reconstruction projects, improvements to residential infrastructure, urban regeneration, and the expansion of youth and childcare policies. As a result, Junggu has achieved the meaningful milestone of recovering its population to 100,000 after 27 years.
