Kim Uigyeom, the newly appointed head of the Saemangeum Development Agency, stated on the 21st, "In this era of major energy transition, I will work to develop Saemangeum into a hub for renewable energy," adding, "For now, I will focus on attracting an RE100 industrial complex to Saemangeum."
An RE100 industrial complex refers to an industrial park where 100% of the electricity required by companies is supplied by eco-friendly renewable energy sources. The RE100 campaign, in which companies pledge to use 100% renewable energy for their electricity needs, is being promoted as a key policy initiative by the new government, leading to the establishment of such complexes.
At his inauguration ceremony held at the Saemangeum Development Agency auditorium in Gunsan, North Jeolla Province, on this day, Kim said, "I believe I am standing here today in accordance with the President's wish for me to return to my hometown and work diligently." He continued, "Saemangeum cannot be developed through development alone. In order to achieve harmony with nature, we will work together and deliberate on measures such as seawater circulation and ecosystem restoration, so that Saemangeum becomes a place loved by all citizens."
