"Future Prospects Forum of Busan, the Marine Capital" Held on the 21st
Nine Invited Lectures Including Arctic Route, Port Logistics, and Blue Food

As the relocation of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries to Busan gains momentum, universities, local governments, industries, and research institutes gathered for an event to discuss the future prospects and growth strategies for Busan as the marine capital.


On the morning of July 21, National Pukyong University (President Bae Sanghoon) held the "Future Prospects Forum of Busan, the Marine Capital" at the Pukyong Convention Hall. The theme of the forum was "Future Strategies and Vision for Global Marine Capital Busan."

The forum brought together major leaders in the marine and fisheries sector, including Bae Sanghoon, President of National Pukyong University; Choi Yongseok, President of the National Institute of Fisheries Science; Kim Jongdeok, President of the Korea Fisheries Resources Agency; Seo Jonggun, President of the Busan Technology Startup Investment Institute; Kim Minjong, President of the Korea Institute of Maritime and Fisheries Technology; Bae Jeongcheol, President of the Korea Research Institute of Ship and Ocean Engineering; Jeong Yeonsong, CEO of Busan Cooperative Fish Market; and Lee Hyeonggyun, Head of the Busan Branch of the Korea Overseas Fisheries Association.


On this day, former Minister of Oceans and Fisheries Youngchun Kim delivered a keynote speech on the topic "Marine Capital Busan, Conditions and Strategies." This was followed by nine invited lectures on topics such as the Arctic route, port logistics, and blue food.

In his keynote speech, Youngchun Kim emphasized, "Busan possesses the geopolitical conditions to serve as a bridgehead for the nation's development. With the relocation of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and the opening of the Arctic route, Busan will be equipped with the wings of growth to attract talent and businesses." He further stressed, "All stakeholders?including local and central governments, companies, and universities?must work together to establish Busan not only as Korea's marine capital but also as a global marine capital of East Asia, thereby driving national development."


The invited lectures held in the afternoon on the first floor of the Dongwon Jangbogwan included: "Busan Port's Preparation for the Arctic Route" (Kim Eunwoo, Head of Port Industry Research Division, Korea Maritime Institute); "AI-Based Port Logistics Service Strategies" (Yang Hyunseok, Research Fellow, Korea Port Logistics Strategy Institute); "Marine Energy-Based Sector Coupling Technology" (Jeong Namjo, Head of SCI Convergence Research Group, Korea Institute of Energy Research); "Korean-Style Smart Cruise" (Yoo Dajong, Director, PanStar Group); and "Development Strategies for Busan as a Global Logistics Hub" (Professor An Taegun, National Pukyong University).


Additional lectures included: "Fostering Future Leaders in Global Blue Food" (Professor Kim Youngmok, National Pukyong University); "Trends in Eco-Friendly Engine Technology for Ship Decarbonization" (Cha Sangbae, Division Head, Everllence Korea Ltd.); "New Challenges and Opportunities in Marine Development: Deep-Sea Mineral Resources" (Kim Jonguk, Ph.D., Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology); and "Current Status of PNT Initiatives by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries" (Jeon Gijun, Senior Officer, Incheon Regional Office of Oceans and Fisheries).


President Bae Sanghoon stated, "Through this forum, we expect that various stakeholders?including universities, industries, research institutes, and local governments?will collaborate to discuss strategies for establishing a sustainable, Busan-style innovation ecosystem, and that Busan will secure the growth momentum to emerge as a global marine hub city leading the future as a maritime powerhouse."
