Gwangju City has urged citizens to follow infectious disease prevention guidelines and has launched proactive quarantine activities to prevent the spread of infectious diseases in areas affected by recent heavy rains and flooding.

The city, in cooperation with public health centers in its five districts, has been conducting intensive disinfection operations in flooded areas and vulnerable facilities since July 19 to block sources of infection.

This operation, which will continue until July 24, involves 66 quarantine teams and 148 personnel. Disinfection is being carried out according to on-site conditions, focusing on mosquito breeding grounds such as puddles and major sites where sanitary pests are likely to occur.

The city is also maintaining an emergency response system to quickly address any outbreaks of infectious diseases and is making every effort to protect public health. In particular, given the deterioration of sanitary conditions following the heavy rains, citizens are being urged to follow personal hygiene practices, such as washing hands. It is important to wash hands with soap for at least 30 seconds before and after preparing food and before eating.

Additionally, when working in flooded areas for disaster recovery, individuals should wear waterproof work clothes, boots, and gloves (rubber gloves) to avoid exposing their skin. Special care should be taken to prevent exposing skin if there are wounds or abrasions. During work, it is important to stay hydrated and take sufficient breaks, and after work, any exposed skin should be thoroughly washed with clean water.

Kang Yunseon, Director of Public Health and Medical Services, stated, "We will thoroughly carry out disinfection to prevent the spread of infectious diseases in flood-affected areas," and asked, "If you experience symptoms of infectious diseases such as diarrhea, please report them immediately to your local health center."
