On July 21, Hansol Paper stated that all processes at the Shintanjin Plant would be halted from this day until July 31. Last year, the Shintanjin Plant recorded sales of approximately 348 billion KRW, accounting for 15.7% of the company's total revenue. During the suspension period, Hansol Paper plans to focus on commemorating the deceased worker and conducting intensive inspections of safety matters within the plant.
On July 16, a worker in his 30s who had been employed at the Hansol Paper Shintanjin Plant for just one month died after being caught in a "mixer" used to crush waste paper. According to the police, the employee fell into an inlet on the mixer, which was approximately 30 centimeters wide and 5.3 meters long, while carrying waste paper on top of the machine, resulting in his death. The Daejeon Employment and Labor Office is investigating whether Hansol Paper violated any safety regulations and is reviewing whether the Serious Accidents Punishment Act should be applied.
Regarding the accident, Hansol Paper stated, "We offer our deepest condolences for the tragic accident that occurred at our workplace. We will do our utmost to support and assist the bereaved family so that their pain and suffering may be eased, even if only a little." The company also added, "We will fully cooperate with the authorities' investigation and make company-wide efforts to prevent a recurrence of such accidents."
