Coway Hosts 1st Coway Cup Wheelchair Basketball Tournament... Hanbit Nurigo Wins Championship

Coway announced on July 21 that it successfully hosted the 1st Coway Cup School Sports Club Wheelchair Basketball Tournament at the Holt Sports Complex for the Disabled in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province.

This tournament was organized by Coway and supervised by the Seoul Wheelchair Basketball Association. Teams consisted of both students with and without disabilities from six high schools in the Seoul metropolitan area. Following the establishment of its own wheelchair basketball team, the Coway Bluewheels, Coway held this tournament to promote the sport and to raise awareness about disabilities among youth.


Six high schools?Seoul National University High School, Youngnak High School, Wooshin High School, Ipo High School, Janggok High School, and Hanbit Nurigo?participated in the event. In the final match, Hanbit Nurigo defeated Janggok High School 18 to 10 to claim the first championship. Coway Bluewheels players directly participated in refereeing and tournament operations, leveraging their expertise to enhance understanding of wheelchair basketball and improve the quality of the games.


Coway provided all participating schools with uniforms reflecting each team's unique identity, as well as Coway Bluewheels sports towels. For the top-performing teams, Coway awarded representative products such as ice water purifiers, air purifiers, and bidets according to their rankings.


A Coway representative stated, "Wheelchair basketball is a sport that everyone can enjoy together, delivering the values of diversity and inclusion," and added, "Through the Coway Cup and various other programs, we will continue to expand our support so that more young people can experience an integrated sports culture."


Meanwhile, Coway Bluewheels, established in 2022, is the only team among the six domestic professional wheelchair basketball teams operated by a private company. During the off-season, the team collaborates with various educational institutions to host wheelchair basketball experience events for elementary, middle, and high schools, universities, and youth organizations nationwide. Through these integrated sports activities, which can be enjoyed by both people with and without disabilities, Coway Bluewheels is leading efforts to spread the values of inclusion and respect.
