After Performing CPR on Collapsed Woman, Chinese Netizens Stir Controversy: "Doctor Touched Her Chest" A male professor at a medical university in China performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on a woman who collapsed on the street and has been accused of "touching her chest." He responded by saying he felt "scared and deeply disappointed." Weibo

Because the likelihood of death is high if CPR is not administered, CPR for cardiac arrest must be started as quickly as possible. As she continued providing emergency care, the female doctor called for help, and a local medical university professor named Pan, who was passing by on a bicycle, volunteered, explaining that he specialized in clinical medicine and had received CPR training.

Pan and the female doctor then alternated performing CPR for about 10 minutes. During this time, the female doctor also checked the patient's condition and asked the family to call an ambulance, continuing the rescue efforts. The woman eventually regained her breathing and pulse, opened her eyes, and was transported to the hospital by ambulance. The video of the incident spread on local social media, drawing significant attention. However, some people raised allegations of sexual harassment, claiming Pan's hand position was "inappropriate," which sparked controversy.

One social media user claimed, "Watching the video, it is clear that the man touched the woman's chest as she lay collapsed." Another commented, "In such situations, it is better for a woman to provide emergency care. Can't you massage the abdomen instead of the chest?" As the controversy grew, Pan responded, saying, "I never expected to be criticized after helping someone. Honestly, I felt scared and greatly disappointed." He explained, "At the time, my only thought was that the rescue was the priority, and my hands were definitely placed on the sternum." He added, "If there had been a problem with my CPR technique, the medical staff would have pointed it out. So far, no one has done so," and lamented, "If I had known I would be criticized like this, I wouldn't have stepped in to help."

As the controversy intensified, another social media user who identified themselves as a witness at the scene stated, "It was a life-threatening situation, and no one had the luxury to question Pan's hand position." The witness added, "The female doctor and Pan worked together to help the collapsed patient regain consciousness." Local social media users also posted messages supporting Pan, saying, "Saving a life is the most important thing," "This was not a situation to worry about gender," and "He could have just walked by, but he stepped in to help," applauding Pan's courageous actions.
