Lim Woohyung, Overseeing Institute Operations and Applied Research
LG AI Research announced on the 21st that it has appointed Lee Honglak, Executive Vice President (Chief AI Scientist, CSAL), and Lim Woohyung, Executive Director (Senior Lab Leader and Head of Data Intelligence Lab), as the new co-heads of research.
Director Lee Honglak, born in 1977, has been a professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Michigan since 2010. He is recognized as a leading scholar in the fields of machine learning and deep learning, having been selected as one of the world's top 10 AI researchers. He has led the 'LG Global AI Center' under the research institute, located in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and has spearheaded research on next-generation AI technologies and the expansion of the global AI ecosystem.
The institute explained that Director Lee will continue to lead the AI research organization in the United States, integrating advanced AI technologies into LG AI Research and playing a key role in discovering global AI talent.
Director Lim Woohyung, born in 1978, joined LG Electronics in 2019 as a research fellow specializing in AI. He is regarded as an expert in machine learning and speech recognition. He has conducted applied AI research using Exaone, solving various complex challenges arising in affiliate businesses and industrial sites. Going forward, Director Lim will oversee overall operations of the institute in Korea and will be responsible for expanding AI services based on Exaone.
An LG representative stated, "We expect the two new co-heads of research to create synergy and lead LG's business innovation through AI technology." The term of the co-heads of research begins today.
