On July 21, Namyangju Mayor Joo Kwangdeok held a press conference to commemorate the third anniversary of the 8th term of direct election, where he presented the city administration's achievements over the past three years and outlined his vision for the future.

Mayor Joo stated, "We have accelerated the fulfillment of our pledges through field-oriented communication and citizen participation," and emphasized, "Namyangju's innovation has been recognized through external evaluations, including receiving the highest rating for pledge fulfillment among basic local government heads for two consecutive years, as well as winning awards at the Manifesto Best Practices Competition for two years in a row."

He highlighted transportation as a representative achievement. The groundbreaking for the GTX-B line has been confirmed for next year, while the opening of the Byeollae Line (Line 8) and the operation of the Maseok-Sangbong shuttle train are progressing in earnest, making the expansion of the metropolitan railway network a reality.

In particular, with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport granting final approval for the Wangjuk New Town metropolitan transportation improvement plan, Namyangju has laid the foundation to emerge as a key transportation hub in the northeastern part of the Seoul metropolitan area.

Major subway and metro extension projects, as well as the construction of new expressways, multi-level roads, and tunnels, are also underway, further expanding the road network. With the addition of new expressways, branch roads, multi-level roads, and tunnels, the city's commuting and station-area self-sufficiency functions are expected to be significantly strengthened.

The construction of the new Namyangju City Hall is also picking up speed. The city has completed the architectural design competition and aims to finalize the design within this year, break ground in 2027, and complete the project by 2031. In addition to the new city hall, the city plans to establish the Namyangju Policy Research Institute, the Eastern Public Health Center, and the Cultural Foundation to strengthen its administrative infrastructure.

Projects for environmental sustainability and energy independence are also underway. Wangjuk District 2 will become the first hydrogen city in the northeastern Seoul metropolitan area, and eco-friendly infrastructure such as a comprehensive resource circulation complex and the undergrounding of the Jingun public sewage treatment facility will be expanded.

Additionally, citizen-oriented green spaces such as Dasan-dong Jeong Yakyong Park, the opening of Gungjip, and the creation of Maseok Neighborhood Park will continue to be expanded.

Industrial attraction is also noteworthy. In the Wangjuk District Urban High-Tech Industrial Complex (1.2 million square meters), the city succeeded in attracting major corporations such as Digital Universe (Woori Financial Group) and the AI Digital Hub (Kakao), leading to investments totaling 1.15 trillion won.

Mayor Joo explained, "With the full-scale attraction of future-oriented high-tech industries based on AI, Namyangju's industrial structure is undergoing a major transformation. This is a meaningful achievement, as we have secured both job creation, which is at the core of urban self-sufficiency, and future engines of growth."

In particular, the urban high-tech industrial complex to be established in Wangjuk District will be divided into four clusters: major corporations (anchors), AI, fabless, and advanced manufacturing, aiming to promote industrial concentration.

He added, "Our core task is to create a Cloud Valley based on AI in Namyangju, similar to Silicon Valley in the United States, and we will focus our administrative capabilities to realize this goal."

In the second half of the year, the city will work to attract additional anchor companies and sign business agreements with various high-tech industry associations. In the first half of next year, a large-scale investment briefing session will be held to widely promote the competitiveness and investment value of the Wangjuk Urban High-Tech Industrial Complex both domestically and internationally.

Mayor Joo stated, "Sincerely respecting citizens and realizing their aspirations is the right direction for city administration in the city of Jeong Yakyong. Over the past three years, I have strived to make Namyangju a city that all citizens can relate to and trust."

He further emphasized, "During the remaining one year of my term, I will do my utmost to realize the Namyangju that our citizens desire."
