On this day, Yoo Junggeun, Acting Mayor of Yeongju City, personally participated in the inspection, visiting Jumakgeori Camp located in Namdae-ri, Buseok-myeon, to closely examine the safety management status of camping facilities vulnerable to heavy rainfall.
With an increase in camping facility visitors expected ahead of the weekend, the city concentrated on inspecting the overall safety management system?including drainage systems, evacuation facilities, and disaster broadcasting facilities?to prevent safety accidents.
As of July 19, Buseok-myeon had recorded a cumulative rainfall of 135.5 mm over the past four days, with an additional 22 mm of rain falling on that day, resulting in continued heavy rainfall. In response, the city immediately activated emergency level 1, deploying 220 emergency personnel to establish a rapid disaster response system.
On the same day, Acting Mayor Yoo also toured nearby tourist attractions such as Maguryeong Tunnel, Kong World Science Museum, and Jangsu Fermentation Experience Village, directly checking the improved accessibility to local tourist sites following the opening of Maguryeong Tunnel and exploring measures to revitalize regional tourism.
Acting Mayor Yoo emphasized, "When a large amount of rain falls in a short period, the lives and safety of residents and tourists are our top priority," adding, "We will thoroughly inspect and respond to disaster-prone areas." He continued, "Based on the dramatically improved transportation accessibility brought by the opening of Maguryeong Tunnel, we will also strive to boost local tourism and economic revitalization."
