Blood Pressure Measured at Home
Shared in Real Time with Over 3,800 Hospitals
On July 21, M-Circle, an affiliate of Daewoong Pharmaceutical, announced the launch of a smart blood pressure management service in collaboration with Omron, the world's leading blood pressure monitor brand. This service enables users to measure their blood pressure in comfortable environments such as at home or at work, without spatial constraints, and share the data in real time with medical institutions for ongoing management.
This service features the integration of Omron blood pressure monitors with the chronic disease management platform WellCheck, operated by M-Circle, via Bluetooth. This allows blood pressure data measured at home to be automatically recorded without manual entry. The data is shared in real time with primary care physicians at over 3,800 partner hospitals nationwide, enabling more accurate diagnosis and continuous prognosis management.
The advantage of this service is that it enables the use of "home blood pressure" measurements, which patients can take more frequently and with relative ease. Blood pressure measured in a clinic can differ from actual levels due to external factors such as unfamiliar environments, nervousness, or stress. Many experts believe that home blood pressure, measured consistently at the same time each day in a stable state, is more accurate and advantageous for predicting cardiovascular disease risk.
However, it is reported that only 22% of hypertension patients in Korea consistently record their home blood pressure. This low rate is due to the inconvenience and hassle of manually recording each measurement and bringing the records to the hospital in person.
The WellCheck smart hypertension management service was developed to address these inconveniences and enhance the effectiveness of hypertension management. Measurements taken with the Omron blood pressure monitor are automatically recorded in the application (app), and partner hospital medical staff can check this data in real time and use it for personalized patient care. Patients only need to measure their blood pressure at home, while medical staff can continuously monitor patient status through the app, greatly improving the continuity and efficiency of care.
In addition to blood pressure, WellCheck can collect and record data on blood glucose, medication, medical and family history, lifestyle habits, and health checkup results, and share it with the responsible medical staff. In particular, the platform can be linked with the pilot system for primary care chronic disease management run by the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service, and more than 1,000 hospitals nationwide are currently utilizing this integration.
Kim Seungsoo, CEO of M-Circle, said, "The core of this collaboration is to provide blood pressure data that can be used in actual clinical practice, going beyond simple record keeping." He added, "We plan to expand integration with various digital healthcare devices, such as blood glucose meters and ring-type blood pressure monitors, to build a more precise health management environment in the future."
