The number of cancer patients receiving treatment at Chosun University Hospital has been steadily increasing every year. This growth is attributed to a treatment system focused on critical and emergency patients, the introduction of state-of-the-art medical equipment, highly skilled medical staff, and a specialized integrated care system that has earned the trust of patients.

According to Chosun University Hospital on July 21, the hospital introduced the image-guided precision radiation therapy device 'Halcyon 3.1' in May 2023. In November of the same year, the hospital became the first in Gwangju and Jeonnam to introduce 'TrueBEAM', known as the "dream cancer treatment device," thereby strengthening personalized cancer treatment for patients.

TrueBEAM is a precision treatment device capable of stereotactic radiosurgery and respiratory-gated therapy, demonstrating excellent performance in the treatment of organ cancers such as liver and lung cancer.

The hospital's commitment to treating local cancer patients, including the adoption of advanced medical equipment, is reflected in recent figures. Last year, the number of patients receiving radiation cancer treatment reached 16,279, an increase of approximately 63% compared to the previous year (10,010 patients), reaching 162% of the previous year's level. This demonstrates the hospital's capabilities in radiation cancer treatment with concrete numbers. In addition, the cumulative number of patients from January to June this year was 8,601, an increase of about 25% compared to the same period last year (6,908 patients), continuing the hospital's steady growth.

Chosun University Hospital is also achieving outstanding results in the field of surgery. In February 2022, the hospital became the first in Gwangju to introduce the fourth-generation advanced robotic surgical system, Da Vinci Xi. Since performing its first robotic surgery in April of the same year, the hospital has achieved 600 robotic surgeries in just over three years, with more than 70% of these being complex cancer surgeries such as gastric cancer, thyroid cancer, and prostate cancer.

Various departments, including surgery, urology, obstetrics and gynecology, and otolaryngology, participate in cancer treatment, enhancing both precision and safety. Minimally invasive procedures have significantly reduced pain and recovery burden, greatly improving patient satisfaction.

Furthermore, Chosun University Hospital operates a "multidisciplinary integrated care" system involving specialized teams for 13 different types of cancer. In addition to specialists from each department, oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, nurses, and nutritionists all participate to provide patients with the optimal treatment plan. This collaborative approach, achieved through a single visit, reduces patient inconvenience and medical expenses, and is regarded as a model case for improving the quality of care.

Ryu Sungyeop, Director of the Cancer Center (Professor of Gastrointestinal Surgery), stated, "Chosun University Hospital is a facility where patients can receive precise and systematic cancer treatment without having to travel all the way to Seoul. We are doing our utmost to ensure that local patients can receive the highest level of cancer surgery and standardized treatment methods with peace of mind."
