"LG Display to Rebound in Q3 as iPhone Panel Shipments Rise 70 Percent"

Market Research Firm "UBI Research" Forecasts
Says Second Quarter Shipment Drop Behind China's BOE Is "Temporary"

There is an outlook that LG Display's performance will improve starting in the third quarter, as shipments of OLED (organic light-emitting diode) panels for iPhones and iPads are expected to increase.

According to market research firm UBI Research on July 21, LG Display's shipments of iPhone panels in the third quarter are projected to reach 18.5 million units, an increase of about 70% compared to the previous quarter. Shipments of panels for iPads are also expected to double, rising from 800,000 units in the second quarter to 1.6 million units in the third quarter.

In the previous second quarter, LG Display's share of iPhone panel shipments was 21.3%, falling behind China's BOE (22.7%) for the first time. Samsung Display held a market share of 56%. UBI Research diagnosed LG Display's decline in market share as a temporary phenomenon. The firm explained that, since Apple begins full-scale mass production of new iPhone series every July, shipments will naturally increase from the third quarter onward. Based on this, UBI Research analyzed that LG Display's market share in the annual iPhone OLED panel market will exceed 30% in 2025. Samsung Display is expected to record a 53.3% share, while BOE is projected to have a 16.4% share.

Han Changwook, Vice President of UBI Research, analyzed, "As Apple begins mass production of new OLED models for the iPad Pro along with the iPhone 17 series starting in July, LG Display's performance will show a clear rebound from the third quarter."
