Over 30 Members of Czech Delegation, Including Minister of Industry and Trade, Visit Seocho District
Mayor Seongsu Jeon: "Pursuing Sister City Agreement with Prague 6 District"
A Czech delegation led by Luk?? Bla?ek, Minister of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic, visited Seocho District in Seoul, where Seongsu Jeon serves as mayor.
According to Seocho District on July 21, the visit by the Czech delegation was part of a three-day official trip to Korea organized by the Czech government. The purpose of the visit was to strengthen cooperation in the fields of industry, trade, science, and technology, as well as to expand exchanges between economic delegations. On July 18, the delegation held meaningful discussions at Seocho District Office, where they explored practical ways to promote bilateral exchange and cooperation and addressed mutual interests between the two countries.

On the same day, Minister Luk?? Bla?ek became the first Czech minister-level official to visit the "V?clav Havel Bench" (Havel Bench) installed at Yangjaecheon in Seocho District. The Havel Bench commemorates V?clav Havel, the first president who led the Czech Revolution of 1989, and serves as a symbol of openness and democratic values. It has been installed in 18 countries around the world. In Korea, the first Havel Bench was established at Yangjaecheon in Seocho District in May of this year.
Previously, after "Team Korea," led by Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power, was selected as the preferred bidder for the Czech nuclear power plant project, there was a consensus to install the Havel Bench as a symbol of friendly cooperation between the two countries. Potential sites considered included World Cup Park and Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, but the Yangjaecheon area was ultimately chosen due to its high foot traffic and natural environment.
The completed Havel Bench features a boxwood tree donated by Danyang County in North Chungcheong Province and a round table and chairs transported from the Czech Republic. Hyundai Motor Company supported the transportation and installation, further emphasizing the significance of public-private cooperation.
Meanwhile, at the end of June, a delegation led by Seocho District Mayor Seongsu Jeon visited Prague 6 District in the Czech Republic, where they held a meeting with Mayor Jakub St?rek to discuss a wide range of sustainable cooperation measures in areas such as culture, environment, and industry. In addition, with the signing of a new Czech nuclear power plant construction project worth approximately 25 trillion won in June, bilateral exchanges have gained momentum. Seocho District is also actively pursuing a sister city agreement with Prague 6 District, where V?clav Havel International Airport is located.
Seocho District Mayor Seongsu Jeon stated, "The Havel Bench, created in the beautiful Yangjaecheon area, is a special space where we can reflect together on the values of communication, harmony, and democracy." He added, "I look forward to even more active cooperation and exchange between the two countries through a sister city agreement with Prague 6 District in the future."
