The Democratic Party had initially planned to hold the Chungcheong and Yeongnam primaries on-site in Daejeon and Busan this weekend, but due to ongoing heavy rainfall, the events were replaced with an online joint campaign speech session.
After the announcement of the Yeongnam primary results, Jung told reporters, "I was truly astonished by the record-high voter turnout," and added, "I am deeply grateful to the party members who have shown such overwhelming support for me, both yesterday and today, despite my shortcomings."
During the joint campaign speech session for the Yeongnam region, both Jung and Park emphasized their pledges for the area. Jung stated, "I will establish a special committee for regional development, including discovering new talent in Yeongnam, and institutionalize the one-policy aide system for each metropolitan councilor. I will also hold a party members' concert and an awards ceremony for outstanding members."
Park pledged, "I will revive the local party branches," and added, "I will also establish support committees for regional party offices not represented in the National Assembly so that they can raise political donations." He further stated, "I will reform the party's system so that residents in strategic regions, including Yeongnam, do not have to suffer from not having a sitting lawmaker."
