In the Yeongnam regional convention of the Democratic Party of Korea, party leader candidate Jung Chungrae achieved an overwhelming victory over Park Chandae, receiving 62.55% of the votes.
On July 20, Kim Jeongho, chairman of the Democratic Party's Central Election Commission, announced at the party's central headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul, that "Candidate No. 1, Jung Chungrae, received 40,868 votes and a vote share of 62.55%, while Candidate No. 2, Park Chandae, received 24,464 votes and a vote share of 37.45%."
The voter turnout among party members with voting rights on this day was 65.57%, with 99,642 eligible voters and 65,332 valid ballots cast.
In the Chungcheong regional primary held the previous day, Jung also led by a wide margin, securing 35,142 votes (62.77%) compared to Park's 20,846 votes (37.23%).
The Democratic Party had originally planned to hold the Chungcheong and Yeongnam regional primaries in Daejeon and Busan, respectively, over the weekend, but due to continued torrential rain, the events were replaced with a joint online campaign rally.
