According to Changwon City on July 20, the recent heavy rain caused various damages, including road flooding, fallen trees, soil runoff, and damage to farmland in some areas such as Uichang-gu and Masanhappo-gu. However, the city, fire department, and police worked closely together to provide rapid emergency response, which minimized the damage.
The city held daily countermeasure meetings presided over by the Acting Mayor from July 17 to 19 and conducted frequent inspections and monitoring of disaster-prone facilities in each designated district. In particular, for disaster-prone facilities where casualties could occur, such as landslide-prone areas, underpasses, and rivers, the city implemented proactive measures, including evacuating residents.
Even after the heavy rain warning was lifted, Acting Mayor Jang personally visited the site of embankment collapse in Buk-myeon, where continued rainfall had caused damage, as well as the site of soil runoff at the Masanhoewon-gu self-sufficient complex administrative town development project. He checked the progress of recovery efforts and the safety of residents, and ordered prompt restoration of the damaged areas.
Jang Geumyong, Acting Mayor of Changwon Special City, stated, "The weather these days is unpredictable, and without thorough preparation, it can lead to significant damage. Changwon City has continuously monitored and inspected areas at risk of casualties and disaster-prone facilities, and by implementing proactive control and evacuations, we were able to prevent casualties and minimize property damage."
He added, "We will continue to do our utmost in disaster preparedness and response, even to the point of being considered excessive, to cope with unpredictable weather changes. I also express my deep gratitude to all the staff who worked tirelessly day and night to minimize damage over the past three days."
