Local Council Member Searches for Drains with Bare Hands Amid 400mm Downpour... Community Deeply Moved Hyungjoo Ahn, a Seo District council member, did his best to prevent damage by redirecting vehicles passing through the road when a children's protection zone in Geumho-dong was flooded by rainwater on the 17th. It was recently revealed that, amid record-breaking torrential rains, a local council member in Gwangju personally toured his district and undertook dangerous drainage work to prevent damage, which has touched the local community.

The person in question is Hyungjoo Ahn, a Seo District council member representing Geumho 1 and 2-dong. On the 17th, when heavy rain began in earnest in Gwangju, a children's protection zone in Geumho-dong, Seo District, started to flood because the ground was uneven due to facility construction, preventing proper drainage. In particular, the enormous amount of rainwater, along with various floating debris, blocked the few existing drains, causing the surrounding area to gradually become inundated.

While monitoring the area in anticipation of heavy rain, Council Member Ahn, upon confirming the urgent situation, put on a reflective vest and raincoat himself and began searching, by hand, for the drains within the children's protection zone that were submerged and invisible under the water.

After painstakingly locating the drains, he removed all the accumulated debris by hand. Only then did the water finally begin to drain, and the immediate crisis was averted.

However, just an hour later, torrential rain began to pour again, and it became impossible for Council Member Ahn to handle the situation alone.

In fact, on that day, more than 400mm of rain fell in Gwangju like a deluge. As a result, the children's protection zone and the surrounding roads began to flood again.

Upon witnessing this, Council Member Ahn reportedly went out to the road himself to control traffic and take command of the scene.

His selfless actions were witnessed by all the residents nearby, and some even took videos and photos to express their gratitude.

Council Member Ahn stated, "I am embarrassed, but as a council member with a district to serve, it was only natural for me to do this. Many citizens of Gwangju are going through a difficult time due to the unprecedented heavy rain. Let us stay strong and overcome this crisis together."
