From the early morning until the morning of July 20, various types of damage occurred in Gapyeong, Uijeongbu, Goyang, and other areas, including river flooding, inundation, landslides, and traffic controls.
In particular, Gapyeong County, which was hit by a torrential downpour in the early morning hours, saw five residents go missing after being swept away by rapid currents. At around 4:30 a.m. on this day, a resident surnamed Lee (80) went missing after being swept away by the rising water in Daebo 1-ri, Jojong-myeon, Gapyeong County, Gyeonggi Province.
It is reported that Lee was attempting to evacuate with family members by car after an evacuation order was issued due to the overflow of Daebo Bridge, but became isolated by the rising water and was unable to escape in time.
The family members who were in the car managed to escape safely. Disaster authorities confirmed that four other residents were also missing: two in Jojong-myeon, one in Sang-myeon, and one in Buk-myeon. Police and fire authorities are searching for the missing persons but are facing difficulties due to the high water levels.
