Intensive Search Underway Near Sinan Bridge and Geumgok-dong
Whereabouts of Men in Their 80s and 70s Remain Unknown
On the 18th, police and firefighters are searching for a missing person at Sinan Bridge in Bukgu, Gwangju. The previous day, Gwangju experienced heavy rain of 426.4mm in one day, and a person estimated to be a man in his 60s went missing near Sinan Bridge. The search operation for two people who went missing due to extreme heavy rain has continued for three days in Gwangju.
According to the Gwangju Fire Headquarters and Bukbu Police Station on July 19, searches for the missing persons are currently underway near Sinan Bridge and in the Geumgok-dong area of Bukgu. The missing person, identified as Mr. A, who is in his mid-80s, was last seen being swept away by a torrent near Sinan Bridge at around 5:30 p.m. on July 17. On the same day, at around 7:20 p.m., a man in his 70s, Mr. B, was also reported missing.
The police and fire authorities began the search after receiving a report from a resident who witnessed Mr. A being swept away. They confirmed his identity the following day by identifying his residence through closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage.
The search was repeatedly suspended and resumed due to the heavy rain. The authorities temporarily halted the operation from the afternoon of July 18 due to heavy rainfall, but resumed the search in the afternoon of July 19.
Currently, the police and fire departments are focusing their intensive search efforts along the river and walking trails, deploying personnel and equipment.
