As of 1:30 p.m. on July 19, the Korea Forest Service raised the landslide crisis alert to the "Severe" level for eight metropolitan cities and provinces: Busan, Daegu, Gwangju, Ulsan, North Jeolla, South Jeolla, North Gyeongsang, and South Gyeongsang.
With this measure, a total of 12 regions are now under the "Severe" landslide crisis alert: Busan, Daegu, Gwangju, Ulsan, North Jeolla, South Jeolla, North Gyeongsang, South Gyeongsang, Daejeon, Sejong, North Chungcheong, and South Chungcheong.
The "Alert" level has been issued for Seoul, Incheon, Gyeonggi, and Gangwon, while the "Caution" level is in effect for Jeju Island.
The landslide crisis alert consists of four stages: "Attention," "Caution," "Alert," and "Severe."
Im Sangsub, head of the Korea Forest Service, stated, "Due to continued rainfall, the ground has become significantly weakened, and with additional rain forecasted, the likelihood of landslides is extremely high." He urged, "Please pay close attention to disaster safety text messages and village broadcasts, and evacuate in advance to designated shelters if an evacuation order is issued."
