A commemorative ceremony was held to honor the fallen U.S. soldiers and celebrate the victory in the Daejeon District Battle during the Korean War.

The Daejeon District Battle is recognized as a defensive engagement in which the U.S. Army's 24th Division endured heavy sacrifices and delayed the southward advance of North Korean forces, making a decisive contribution to the establishment of the Nakdong River defensive line, which served as the foundation for the Incheon Landing Operation.

To honor these noble sacrifices and achievements, the first victory commemoration ceremony was held by the Army's 32nd Division in 2013, and since the 4th ceremony in 2016, Daejeon City has hosted the event.

On July 18 at 2 p.m., Daejeon City held the 10th Daejeon District Battle Victory Commemoration Ceremony in the lobby on the second floor of City Hall.

On this day, Lee Jangwoo, Mayor of Daejeon, Cho Wonhui, Chairman of the Daejeon City Council, Seol Dongho, Superintendent of Daejeon Metropolitan Office of Education, as well as the Acting Commander of the U.S. 8th Army, the Commander of the 32nd Division, the Chief of Daejeon Metropolitan Police Agency, the President of the Army College, the Head of the Regional Veterans Affairs Office, key officials from both Korea and the United States, the head of the Daejeon branch of the Korean War Veterans Association, members of veterans' organizations, and approximately 400 others attended.

In his commemorative speech, Lee Jangwoo, Mayor of Daejeon, stated, "Seventy-five years ago, during that scorching summer here in Daejeon, the soldiers of the U.S. 24th Division held out against the overwhelming attack of North Korean forces, buying precious time that allowed UN forces to be fully deployed," and added, "I deeply thank the U.S. soldiers who gave their lives for peace on the Korean Peninsula in a distant land, as well as all the veterans for their noble dedication."
