The Criminal Appellate Division 9-2 of the Seoul Central District Court (Presiding Judges Ryu Changseong, Jeong Hyewon, and Choi Bowon) conducted a detention validity review hearing on the 18th and dismissed former President Yoon's petition. The detention validity review is a procedure to reassess the legality, appropriateness, and necessity of a suspect's detention.
The court appears to have determined that the arrest warrant requested by the special prosecutor's team investigating the December 3 emergency martial law insurrection and treason case was lawfully issued, and that there is a need to continue the investigation with Yoon in detention, considering concerns about evidence destruction and other factors.
Former President Yoon cited his recently deteriorated health as a reason for release, but the court also rejected this argument, taking into account responses from the Seoul Detention Center stating that there were no mobility issues.
