The Democratic Party Gyeongbuk Provincial Party Committee issued a statement on July 18, saying, "It has been two years since the tragic death of Marine Chae Soogeun. However, the truth surrounding his death has yet to be revealed, and not a single person responsible has been held accountable."
The Democratic Party Gyeongbuk Provincial Party Committee continued, "On July 11, the special prosecutor investigating the death of Marine Chae Soogeun conducted searches and seizures at more than ten locations, including the residence of former President Yoon Sukyeol, the home of Cho Taeyong, who was then the National Security Advisor, and the Ministry of National Defense Legal Affairs Office. In particular, during the investigation of the office of National Assembly member Lim Jongdeuk (People Power Party, Yeongju-Yeongyang-Bonghwa), who was the second deputy director of the National Security Office at the time, the special prosecutor faced significant difficulties due to interference from People Power Party lawmakers."
The Democratic Party further stated, "The special prosecutor confirmed evidence that the 'lobbying for rescue' of former Marine Division 1 Commander Lim Sunggeun was connected to former President Yoon Sukyeol. In connection with this 'lobbying for rescue,' searches and seizures were also conducted at the residence of former Commander Lim Sunggeun and both the residence and office of National Assembly member Lee Cheolgyu (People Power Party)." The statement continued, "During the special prosecutor's investigation on July 17, Chief Superintendent Park (who was working at the Presidential Office's Office of Civil Service Discipline at the time) testified that he had been instructed by former Civil Service Discipline Secretary Lee Siwon to retrieve the investigation records, further revealing the reality behind the rumors of the VIP's fury."
The Democratic Party Gyeongbuk Provincial Party Committee stated, "It is becoming increasingly clear that the Yoon Sukyeol administration and the People Power Party were systematically involved in the case of Marine Chae Soogeun's death and interfered with the investigation. Any attempt to conceal the truth can never be tolerated before the people," and added, "We urge a thorough investigation into the allegations of the president's fury and external pressure from the presidential office, so that the truth behind the unjust death of Marine Chae Soogeun is revealed and those responsible are held strictly accountable."
