Deputy Governor Jung Eunju:
"I Was Deeply Moved"
Professor Lee Beomsik, known as the "Left Foot Doctor" and a 60-year-old professor at Yeungnam University College, visited Dalseong County in Daegu as part of his nationwide walk to support the successful hosting of the 2025 Gyeongju Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit.
On the morning of July 18, Professor Lee visited the Dalseong County Office to promote the 2025 Gyeongju APEC Summit. He began his journey on July 7 in Gwangju to show his support for the Gyeongju APEC Summit, which will be held at the end of October this year. He aims to promote harmony between eastern and western regions by walking approximately 400 kilometers from Gwangju through Daegu to Gyeongju in North Gyeongsang Province.
Professor Lee Beomsik, known as the "Left Foot Doctor," who is traveling across the country wishing for the successful hosting of APEC, is meeting with Jung Eunju, Deputy Governor of Dalseong County, after visiting the Dalseong County Office in Daegu.
Professor Lee is a person with a severe disability, having lost both arms and his right leg in an electrical accident in his twenties. As a lifelong learner, he earned a doctorate in vocational rehabilitation and currently lectures at Yeungnam University College and other institutions.
Since last year, he has embarked on walking journeys to raise public awareness and improve welfare for people with disabilities. His efforts have been highlighted on various television programs, including KBS's "Morning Forum" and tvN's "You Quiz on the Block."
Jung Eunju, Deputy Governor of Dalseong County, who welcomed Professor Lee that day, said, "I was deeply moved by Professor Lee Beomsik's challenge to support the integration of Yeongnam and Honam. I hope this journey will encourage citizens to take a greater interest in welfare for people with disabilities. I wish Professor Lee Beomsik a safe completion of the rest of his journey."
