Gijang County in Busan to Recruit Participants for "Humanities on the Road" Program

Jangkwan Library to Spotlight the Renaissance of Busan Art
August 12 to October 28

Gijang County (Governor Jung Jongbok) announced on July 18 that it will begin accepting applications for the "2025 Humanities on the Road" program, a project supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, starting from July 23.

"Humanities on the Road" is a humanities promotion project hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and organized by the Arts Council Korea. The program aims to spread the spirit of the humanities through a combination of lectures, hands-on experiences, and field trips that utilize local humanities resources such as history and culture.

In this call for proposals, the "Culture and Arts of Busan as the Wartime Capital - Busan Art Blossoming Amidst Bombs" program, planned by Jangkwan Library in Gijang County, was selected as a finalist. This program will be held at Jangkwan Library from August 12 to October 28, with a total of 11 sessions.

The lectures will highlight the renaissance of art that flourished in Busan even amidst the tragedy of the Korean War, focusing on the determination and creative spirit demonstrated by artists of the time. Through this, participants are expected to gain a new understanding of Busan's cultural identity and the depth of its art history.

Applications for the program can be submitted online via the Jangkwan Library website starting at 10:00 a.m. on July 23. For more details, please refer to the website's announcements or contact the library directly.

Jung Jongbok, Governor of Gijang County, stated, "We will expand a variety of programs so that Jangkwan Library can serve not only as a public library for the region but also as a hub for the humanities," adding, "We will continue to build a cultural foundation where residents can reflect and grow together."
