Freshmen students dominated their first appearance at a world championship.
Dongmyung University (President Lee Sangcheon) announced that freshmen from the K-Sports Taekwondo Department swept the top three positions in the individual official poomsae category at the World Taekwondo Hanmadang held in Los Angeles, United States.
The competition took place on July 17 (local time) at the Anaheim Convention Center in the United States, with more than 2,000 taekwondo trainees from 32 countries participating. On July 18, Dongmyung University reported that students Kim Jayoung, Choi Yena, and Kim Jeongsarang, all from the K-Sports Taekwondo Department, class of 2025, won first, second, and third place, respectively.
The three students captivated both the panel of judges and the audience with their highly polished movements and focused performances. They participated in the competition as part of a 2025 U.S. cultural exploration and global taekwondo exchange tour, which included visits to local taekwondo studios, demonstration performances, and cultural exchanges.
Won Hyeongjin, head of the K-Sports Taekwondo Department at Dongmyung University, stated, "This achievement is the result of international exchange through taekwondo and an example of the competitiveness of Dongmyung University's taekwondo education," adding, "We will continue to provide strong support so that the status of Korean taekwondo can be widely recognized on the world stage."
