Air Liquide Advanced Materials (ALAM), a subsidiary of the French industrial gas company Air Liquide, has expanded its high-purity molybdenum production facility, a next-generation semiconductor deposition material, in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province.
Earlier this year, Francois Jackow, Chairman of Air Liquide, met with Kim Dongyeon, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, and requested support for permits to expand the molybdenum plant for semiconductor advanced materials at the Hwaseong site by 2026. In response, Governor Kim Dongyeon promised active support and also asked Air Liquide to serve as a bridge for economic cooperation between Korea and France.

With this expansion, domestic production of high-purity molybdenum, which had previously been entirely dependent on imports, is now possible. This is expected to lay the foundation for import substitution and export expansion. Gyeonggi Province and Hwaseong City provided support for permits and site use, and are also pursuing regulatory relaxation within the Jangan 2 Foreign Investment Zone.
Yoo Sojeong, Director of Investment Promotion at Gyeonggi Province, said, "This completion is the result of cooperation between Gyeonggi Province and Air Liquide, and we will continue to actively support technology introduction and high value-added investment in the future."
Founded in Paris, France in 1902, Air Liquide is a leading industrial gas company employing approximately 66,000 people in 72 countries worldwide, with sales of 27 billion euros (about 37 trillion won) as of 2023.
