Chonnam National University announced on the 18th that it had signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Agency for Defense Development for mutual cooperation to advance the space defense semiconductor field.

The agreement was signed by Lee Yunseong, head of the Industry-Academia Cooperation Foundation at Chonnam National University, and Kim Joohyun, director of the Civil-Military Cooperation Promotion Center at the Agency for Defense Development. Both institutions agreed to establish a close cooperative system for the joint advancement of cutting-edge defense technology.

Chonnam National University is currently carrying out the Glocal Lab Hub Project, which is part of the "Integrated Bachelor's-Master's ICT Core Talent Development Project" supported by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Institute of Information & Communications Technology Planning & Evaluation (IITP). The university is also actively pursuing various national research projects, including National Research Institute 2.0 and multiple defense-related research initiatives. This MOU is part of an industry-academia cooperation strategy linked to these government-led policies, and through collaboration with the Agency for Defense Development, it is expected to further advance technology and strengthen research capabilities in the defense semiconductor sector.

A representative from Chonnam National University stated, "This agreement will serve as a bridgehead for expanding the follow-up research and technological applications of the university's Semiconductor Development Intelligence Center into the military and space sectors. Going forward, Chonnam National University plans to work with the Agency for Defense Development to concretize cooperative projects such as practical joint research and development, talent cultivation, and technology transfer."
