Seongnam City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Shin Sangjin) held a kickoff meeting for the "Pre-feasibility Study on the Establishment of Additional General Railway Stations" on the 18th in the City Hall First Conference Room. The study will review the possibility of establishing new railway stations at Pangyo-dong on the Wolgot-Pangyo Line and Dochon Sageori on the Suseo-Gwangju Line.

Seongnam City Launches Full-Scale Feasibility Study for New Railway Stations in Pangyo and Dochon Areas Seongnam Mayor Shin Sangjin is giving a greeting at the kickoff meeting for the "Pre-feasibility Study on the Establishment of Additional General Railway Stations" held on the 18th in the City Hall First Conference Room. This study will examine the feasibility of adding new stations to the Wolgot-Pangyo Line (candidate sites: Mireu Park, Pangyo Library Sageori, Pangyo Park) and the Suseo-Gwangju Line (candidate site: Dochon Sageori). The assessment will determine the viability of the project through technical suitability and economic analysis.

The kickoff meeting was attended by Seongnam Mayor Shin Sangjin, private sector experts in the railway field, and representatives from the organization conducting the study. The participants focused on discussing the necessity and feasibility of installing additional stations.

While pre-feasibility studies for railways typically take 12 months, the city has shortened the investigation period to 6 months in order to actively reflect construction schedules and residents' opinions. The study began in June and is scheduled to be completed by December 2025.

Mayor Shin Sangjin stated, "There has been a continuous demand from residents in the Pangyo-dong and Dochon Sageori areas for improved railway access, and traffic congestion is worsening due to surrounding development. As securing economic feasibility in accordance with the Railway Construction Act is essential for adding stations to lines under construction, I urge that every effort be made to ensure economic feasibility so that citizens' inconvenience is minimized and tangible improvements in transportation can be achieved."

The main tasks of the study include: reviewing related plans and current conditions; examining possible sections for additional stations (including consideration of structures that could accommodate future stations); estimating costs (construction plans and cost estimation); forecasting demand and calculating benefits; analyzing feasibility (economic and financial); presenting development directions and alternatives to secure economic feasibility; and conducting policy analysis and making recommendations.

Seongnam City plans to complete the study by the end of this year and, if feasibility is secured, will actively propose the establishment of additional stations to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and pursue the project proactively.
