Monthly Sales in Japan Online Store Surge from 400 Million to 2 Billion KRW
Growing Interest from Chinese Consumers in Singapore and Australia
On July 18, athleisure brand Andar announced that it achieved its highest-ever monthly sales, recording 3.5 billion KRW in the Japanese, Singaporean, and Australian markets.
Andar began its overseas expansion in March 2022 by launching an online store in Japan and operating pop-up stores at major department stores in key locations. After introducing its online store, Andar recorded average monthly sales in the 400 million KRW range over the two-year period ending in March 2024. However, last month, the brand surpassed 2 billion KRW in monthly sales for the first time. This achievement was driven by heightened interest from Japanese consumers in Andar, coinciding with the Korean Wave's popularity in Japan.
Following its entry into Japan, Andar opened its first and second overseas offline stores in Singapore. In May, Andar launched a standalone store at 'Westfield Sydney' in Australia, marking its first base in the Western market. Leveraging both offline and online channels to rapidly expand its presence, Andar achieved over 1.2 billion KRW in sales in Singapore in June alone. Despite being in the early stages of its store opening, Andar also recorded more than 300 million KRW in sales in Australia last month.
According to Andar, this growth is attributed to strong interest from local consumers, as well as affluent Chinese consumers residing overseas who have begun purchasing Andar products. Although Andar has not entered the Chinese market, keywords related to Andar have been viewed over 3.7 million times on Xiaohongshu, a major Chinese social networking service, with more than 10,000 related posts. The company explained that the surge in visits by affluent Chinese consumers to Andar stores in Singapore and Australia has contributed to sales growth.
Building on this momentum, Andar plans to open a third store in Singapore's flagship shopping mall 'VivoCity' in October. The company is also actively considering opening offline stores in Japan.
Andar CEO Kong Seongah stated, "Having confirmed the brand's growth potential in key markets such as Singapore, Australia, and Japan, we will closely analyze each market's response and organically expand both online and offline channels." In the first quarter, Andar recorded sales of 46.7 billion KRW, a 34% increase compared to the same period last year. The company is preparing for a full-scale entry into the US market.
