Jungnang District Achieves Selection of Three Projects for Seoul New Growth Hub Rapid Promotion Project

Establishment of Development Strategy for Shinnae Vehicle Depot and Surrounding Area

Jungnang District in Seoul (District Mayor Ryu Gyeonggi) announced on the 18th that three projects have been selected as targets for the 'Seoul New Growth Hub Rapid Promotion Project.' The selected projects are the establishment of a development strategy for the Shinnae Vehicle Depot and its surrounding area, the creation of the Mangwoo History·Culture·Rest Cluster, and the construction of a suspension bridge over the Jungnangcheon in Seoul.

The New Growth Hub Project promoted by the Seoul Metropolitan Government aims to discover specialized industries and urban hubs in each region to promote balanced development. This year, the city selected seven projects, with Jungnang District accounting for three of them and thus receiving policy support.

The major selected projects include the 'Establishment of a Development Strategy for the Shinnae Vehicle Depot and Surrounding Area,' which is based on the premise of relocating the vehicle depot and linking it to the triple transfer station area for the Gyeongchun Line, Line 6, and Myeonmok Line. Through this project, the district expects to create an eco-friendly, self-sufficient mixed-use city and to grow as a gateway city in the northeastern part of Seoul. The district, together with the Seoul Metropolitan Government, will proceed with the establishment of a basic plan and an implementation plan by next year.

The 'Creation of the Mangwoo History·Culture·Rest Cluster' project involves establishing a complex cultural space centered around the Mangwoo History and Culture Park. The park is the resting place of more than 100 modern and contemporary figures, including independence activists, cultural artists, and medical professionals. Based on this, the district plans to expand regional cultural resources by providing museums, art galleries, and outdoor exhibitions. By linking with nearby tourist resources, the project is expected to revitalize local tourism and strengthen regional identity.

The 'Construction of the Jungnangcheon Suspension Bridge in Seoul' project will also be actively promoted. A pedestrian-only scenic bridge will be installed to connect Myeonmok-dong in Jungnang District and Hoegyeong-dong in Dongdaemun District, aiming to improve residents' access to cultural activities and expand exchanges between neighboring autonomous districts. As the two districts jointly proposed the project, it is expected to become a landmark in the northeastern area of Seoul.

Ryu Gyeonggi, Mayor of Jungnang District, stated, "The selection of these three projects is evidence that Jungnang District is becoming an important axis of balanced development within Seoul," and added, "We will strengthen cooperation with the Seoul Metropolitan Government and related agencies to ensure that each project can proceed without any setbacks."
