Gyeonggi Province will provide, for the first time in Korea, an additional 40% of crop restoration costs as part of disaster recovery support for environmentally friendly farms.
When agricultural disasters such as heavy rain or snowfall occur, environmentally friendly farms must remove additional pollutants to maintain their eco-friendly certification. Although these farms require higher restoration costs compared to conventional farms, the amount of recovery support has been the same, making it difficult for eco-friendly farmers.
To address this issue, Gyeonggi Province amended the "Ordinance on the Promotion and Support of Environmentally Friendly Agriculture and Fisheries" last year, establishing a legal framework to provide additional financial support for disaster recovery to certified eco-friendly farms affected by natural disasters.
Based on this, Gyeonggi Province secured a budget of 120 million won for disaster recovery support for environmentally friendly farms in the first supplementary budget this year. Once each city and county secures its supplementary budget, the additional support funds will be distributed within this year. The recipients of the support in the province are 155 environmentally friendly farms that suffered disaster damage last year.
The additional payment is 40% of the crop restoration costs.
Gyeonggi Province explained that only environmentally friendly farms that have already received disaster recovery support will be eligible for this additional payment, and no separate application process is required. The funds will be paid in a lump sum directly to the farm accounts as soon as the budget is secured.
Jung Inwoong, Director of the Environmentally Friendly Agriculture Division of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "Environmentally friendly agriculture plays an important role in responding to climate change and preserving the environment, and this will serve as a starting point for supporting the sustainable management of eco-friendly farms."
Gyeonggi Province plans to designate the additional disaster recovery support for environmentally friendly farms as a regular program in accordance with the relevant ordinance, in order to ensure stable payment of disaster recovery funds.
