At approximately 9:05 p.m. on July 17, a fire broke out in the parking lot of an apartment complex in Soha-dong, Gwangmyeong, Gyeonggi Province, leaving five people seriously injured.
According to the National Fire Agency, authorities issued a Level 2 response at around 9:13 p.m. and began firefighting efforts, bringing the main blaze under control by 9:56 p.m. The fire was fully extinguished by 10:32 p.m. However, the Level 2 response remains in effect.
As of now, three people have been transported to the hospital in cardiac arrest due to the fire. One person suffered severe burns over their entire body, and another sustained a loss of consciousness, bringing the total number of those seriously injured to five. Additionally, 27 people inhaled smoke. An emergency medical station has been set up at the scene.
The fire is believed to have started in the piloti parking lot on the first floor of the apartment building. The police plan to investigate the cause of the fire.
