President Lee Holds First Phone Call with Turkiye's President: "Blood Alliance Forged in the Korean War" President Lee Jae Myung Yonhap News

On July 17, President Lee Jae Myung held his first phone conversation since taking office with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkiye.


Kang Yoo Jung, spokesperson for the presidential office, announced this in a written briefing.


According to Spokesperson Kang, President Erdogan expressed his respect for the restoration of democracy in Korea and the resilience of the Korean people, emphasizing that Turkiye places great importance on further developing its long-standing friendship with Korea. He also proposed that the two countries strengthen their cooperation in light of the launch of the new Korean administration.


In response, President Lee expressed his gratitude for the congratulatory message and, according to Spokesperson Kang, stated, "I am pleased that Korea and Turkiye have continued to develop their bilateral relations based on the historical bond of blood forged through Turkiye's participation in the Korean War."


According to Spokesperson Kang, the two leaders highly valued the close economic cooperation that has continued between the two countries, including the expansion of trade and investment, and agreed to further advance practical cooperation in areas such as defense, defense industry, nuclear power, and green energy.


They also agreed to further strengthen their strategic partnership and to maintain close communication to this end.
