SH and Gangseo Fire Station Join Forces for Fire Response in Aging Rental Housing

Fire Drill Conducted at Gayang 4th Complex

Seoul Housing and Communities Corporation (SH) announced on July 17 that it had conducted a joint fire response drill with the Gangseo Fire Station at the Gayang 4th Permanent Rental Apartment Complex, with participation from local residents.

This drill was organized as part of a business agreement signed last month between the two organizations to strengthen fire safety in aging rental housing.

Participants in the drill included SH President Hwang Sangha, Seoul Metropolitan Council member Choi Jinhyuk, Gangseo District Mayor Jin Kyohun, Gangseo Fire Station Chief Lee Wonsuk, as well as staff from the Gayang 4th Complex management office and residents.

The drill was structured as a program to enhance disaster response capabilities for both residents and on-site personnel. Assuming an actual fire situation, the drill was carried out in stages: reporting the fire to 119, broadcasting emergency instructions from the management office, dispatching the fire suppression team to the scene, extinguishing the fire using indoor hydrants and pump trucks, rescuing people with a high-rise ladder truck, guiding residents to evacuate, and performing rescue and CPR (including AED use) for cardiac arrest victims. The ability to respond in an environment similar to a real disaster was also tested with a demonstration of fire suppression using ladder trucks and fire hoses.

SH President Hwang Sangha stated, "SH and the Seoul Metropolitan Fire and Disaster Headquarters will work even more closely together to continuously improve fire safety in aging rental housing," adding, "We will do our utmost to create a residential environment where residents can live with peace of mind."
