This year, with the inauguration of the Lee Jaemyung administration, the government has announced its intention to make every effort to secure national funding for Sejong City for next year. This is because, under the Sejong City administration led by Choi Minho of the People Power Party, government budget support is necessary for the city's major policy projects.
On July 17, Sejong City held a meeting to review efforts to secure national funding, aiming to actively respond to next year's government budget review, which will focus on the completion of the administrative capital and the development of a Hangeul cultural city.
The meeting, presided over by Vice Mayor for Economic Affairs Lee Seungwon, reviewed the status of budget allocations for major municipal projects and key issues, and discussed the current situation and solutions for projects facing difficulties in securing national funding. The main pending projects include the National Hangeul Cultural Complex, the road connecting Bugang Station and Bukdaejeon IC, the Local Autonomy Comprehensive Town, the Jecheon underpass, and the Second Administrative Support Center. Efforts will also continue to secure national funding for ongoing projects such as the driver's license test center, the relocation of the National Folk Museum to Sejong City, and the UNESCO World Heritage Interpretation Center.
In particular, the city administration argues that the National Hangeul Cultural Complex is intended to efficiently respond to the growing demand for Korean language learning driven by Hangeul and Hallyu culture, and to lead the globalization of Hangeul through the establishment of relevant facilities.
In addition, the city reviewed plans to promote projects that will improve transportation access to the National Assembly Sejong Building, such as the connection of National Road 96 and the construction of the Jecheon underpass.
The city also discussed measures to ensure the smooth progress of projects currently undergoing administrative procedures such as the Korea Development Institute's adequacy review, including the National Assembly Sejong Building, the Eco-friendly Comprehensive Town, the access road to the National Industrial Complex, and the Sejong District Court and Prosecutors' Office.
The city plans to actively request the government's attention and support, including the allocation of national funding, to ensure the smooth and complete relocation of key facilities for the completion of the administrative capital, such as the National Assembly and the Presidential Office, to Sejong.
Vice Mayor for Economic Affairs Lee Seungwon stated, "Next year's government budget review is a crucial opportunity for our city to achieve groundbreaking development, so all departments must clearly organize key issues and response measures," adding, "We will focus all administrative resources to ensure that national funding projects that citizens can truly experience are reflected in next year's government budget."
