On July 17, Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province announced that it has completed this year's project to install and replace security CCTVs, which was carried out to create a safer urban environment.

The city explained that, by reflecting residents' opinions and working with the police, it installed CCTVs in residential areas, alleyways, walking trails, and other locations vulnerable to safety concerns for residents. Outdated equipment was replaced with high-performance cameras to enhance effectiveness.

In addition to CCTVs, the city installed 'security emergency bells' designed with Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) principles, enabling residents to quickly request help in emergencies. The city also increased the brightness of areas surrounding the CCTVs to reduce blind spots and enhance safety.

The real-time monitoring by the control center is also increasing the effectiveness of crime prevention. The CCTV control center, located on the 10th floor of City Hall, is staffed by a total of 37 personnel, including 32 monitoring staff and 3 police officers, who provide real-time monitoring 24 hours a day to respond swiftly to emergencies.

Last month, a control center staff member witnessed an act of violence by a man on the street and promptly reported it to the police, preventing further harm. There was also a case where a monitoring staff member, upon noticing an elderly person showing signs of dementia on CCTV footage, reported it to the police and helped ensure the person's safe return home.

According to the city's tally of cases utilizing real-time monitoring and the 'security emergency bell' during the first half of the year, there were 101 cases of crime prevention, 1,659 responses to security emergency bell activations, and 11 disaster response cases.

Lee Sangil, Mayor of Yongin, stated, "We will continue to expand the smart security infrastructure to create a city where citizens can live with peace of mind."
