Minbohyeop Also Urges Voluntary Resignation
People Power Party: "Petition Submitted, Calls for Resignation"
Lee Junseok: "President Lee Jaemyung Faces a Dilemma"
Lee Junseok, a member of the Reform New Party, commented on the appointment of Kang Sunwoo as Minister of Gender Equality and Family?a decision currently causing conflict between the ruling and opposition parties?saying, "I understand President Lee Jaemyung's dilemma."
On the 17th, Lee Junseok wrote on his Facebook page, "President Lee Jaemyung is likely torn between appointing hardline activists from the radical feminist movement and appointing a two-term lawmaker like Kang Sunwoo."
He continued, "President Lee Jaemyung has already experienced the consequences of appointing radical feminists, so he knows what that entails. Now, as the situation is leaning toward appointing Kang Sunwoo, this current predicament has arisen. I understand the dilemma President Lee Jaemyung is presumed to be facing, and I suspect he does not want to appoint a Minister of Gender Equality and Family. The abuse of power is a secondary issue."
Kang Sunwoo, the nominee for Minister of Gender Equality and Family, has faced ongoing controversy, including allegations that she instructed her aides to separate trash and repair a bidet, as well as additional accusations of wage arrears and obstruction of employment. In response, the ruling party has filed a complaint with the Ministry of Employment and Labor on charges of workplace harassment and is calling for her voluntary resignation.
The Democratic Party Aides Association (Minbohyeop) also issued a statement the previous day, urging, "For the success of the Lee Jaemyung administration, candidate Kang must immediately offer a sincere apology to the public and take at least minimal responsibility by voluntarily stepping down from her nomination."
Meanwhile, the presidential office has addressed speculation about Kang Sunwoo's possible voluntary resignation, stating, "This is not true, and our position remains unchanged. We will observe the personnel hearing process before making a judgment."
