Since 2014, Seongsu-dong has grown into a global trend hub through urban regeneration projects, preservation and utilization of red brick buildings, attracting businesses, and social innovation. However, the area has also faced challenges such as rising rents, increased household waste, and overcrowding.

In response, Seongdong-gu has launched the 'Public Pop-up Store,' utilizing public spaces to allow for pop-up store operations without financial burden, aiming to address these issues. The pop-up store is located on the first and second floors of the Seongsu Industrial Innovation Space, as well as in the outdoor public plaza. The first floor operates as a brand exhibition and market, allowing visitors to purchase products directly, while participating brands gain opportunities for promotion and market expansion.

The second floor is designed as a coworking space and shared networking lounge for office workers, providing a stylish office environment for interaction. The outdoor public plaza in front of the Industrial Innovation Space has been created as an open rest area with a 'Yajang' (outdoor market) concept, where visitors can relax and enjoy beverages.

Until August 25, small and medium-sized brands such as 'Basket,' 'Bookstone,' and 'Desker' will participate, presenting a variety of content. The district plans to analyze the results of this project and expand public pop-up stores utilizing idle spaces in Seongsu-dong in the future.

Jeong Wonoh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, stated, "The Public Pop-up Store will serve as a collaborative platform that harmoniously coexists with the local community and as a growth base for small and medium-sized brands and local small businesses."
