On July 16, Incheon International Airport Corporation announced that it has opened an "Electric Wheelchair Rental Center" in collaboration with Hyundai Motor Group and the Green Light Association to support travel for passengers with mobility challenges. The opening ceremony was attended by about 20 key figures, including Lee Hakjae, President of Incheon International Airport Corporation, Lee Hangsu, Vice President of Hyundai Motor Group, and Lee Jaekang, President of the Green Light Association.

The Electric Wheelchair Rental Center is a service that allows passengers with mobility challenges using Incheon Airport to rent wheelchair electrification kits (a component package that can be attached to a manual wheelchair to use it like an electric wheelchair) free of charge. This initiative is linked to "Wheelshare," Hyundai Motor Group's flagship social contribution program. The rental center is equipped with a total of 30 wheelchair electrification kits, including joystick-type, caregiver-operated, and tail-type models, as well as 6 lightweight electric wheels.

Both Korean nationals departing for overseas travel and foreign visitors entering Korea for domestic travel can freely use the wheelchair electrification kits. Equipment rented for departure can also be taken abroad. Users can select equipment that suits their needs and rent it for up to 15 days per use.

Passengers wishing to use the service can make a reservation in advance through the official Wheelshare website or apply on-site. Users must visit the rental center to receive training and guidance from professional staff on how to operate and use the equipment. The rental center is located at the "Disabled Safe Travel Center" between exits 7 and 8 on the 3rd floor of the departure hall at Terminal 1 of Incheon Airport. It operates year-round from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. without holidays.

Previously, Incheon Airport has implemented various initiatives to enhance mobility rights for passengers with transportation challenges, such as operating the Disabled Safe Travel Center, providing preferential departure services for passengers with mobility challenges, and introducing cart robots and autonomous shuttles.

Lee Hakjae, President of Incheon International Airport Corporation, stated, "With the opening of this rental center, we can help passengers with mobility challenges enjoy safer and more convenient travel," and added, "We will continue to actively fulfill the airport's role in spreading social value, including ensuring mobility rights for passengers with transportation challenges."
