The Korea Urban Awards is the most prestigious urban policy evaluation in Korea, recognizing achievements that contribute to improving the quality of urban spaces, enhancing citizens' quality of life, and strengthening urban competitiveness among 229 local governments nationwide.

Goyang Special City has achieved remarkable success by winning the Urban Awards for four consecutive years: the Special Award in the Urban Environment category (President of the Korea Research Institute for Human Settlements Award) in 2022, the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Award in the Urban Economy category in 2023, the Prime Minister's Award in the Comprehensive category in 2024, and this year, once again, the Prime Minister's Award in the Excellent Policy (Smart City) category.

This award is particularly meaningful as it recognizes Goyang Special City's achievements in applying advanced artificial intelligence (AI)-based technologies to administration, enabling the city to make significant progress as a future-oriented city in various fields such as safety, transportation, welfare, and the environment.

In particular, Goyang Special City received high marks for its differentiated smart city policies, including: introducing the nation's first AI-based 'Next-Generation Integrated Control System'; operating an intelligent transportation system through 'Smart Intersections'; building the nation's first 'High-Precision Electronic Map'; obtaining the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's 2024 'Smart City Certification'; and promoting the 'Hub-Type Smart City Development Project.'

Lee Donghwan, mayor of Goyang Special City, stated, "Winning the Prime Minister's Award at this year's Korea Urban Awards is a recognition at home and abroad that our city is advancing as Korea's representative smart city," and added, "We will continue to create a safe and convenient smart city in Goyang that citizens can experience in their daily lives."

He went on to say, "As we mark the third anniversary of our elevation to special city status this year, we will not be complacent with our achievements so far, but will do our utmost to open the era of 'Goyang Success, Citizens' Happiness' by continuously striving for a better future."
