Outstanding Evaluation in Each Category with a Total Score of 238.45
Recognized for Growth Potential by Achieving Top Ranks Nationwide
Sancheong County in South Gyeongsang Province ranked first among counties in the province in the Korea Sustainable City Evaluation.
According to Sancheong County on July 16, the county achieved outstanding results in the "2nd Korea Sustainable City Evaluation Seminar," ranking 14th nationwide in the Innovative Future City category and 13th nationwide in the Life-Friendly City category, placing 15th overall in the Sustainable City (Comprehensive) ranking nationwide.
In particular, with a total score of 238.45 points, Sancheong County was the only county in the province to make it into the top 15, earning the honor of being ranked first among counties in the province.
This evaluation, organized by the Korea Policy Management Institute and jointly promoted by the Korea Regional Management Institute and 18 members of the National Assembly, was designed to present a new framework for measuring urban sustainability and to explore development directions for each local government. The evaluation is based on official data published by the National Statistical Office, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and the National Election Commission.
In addition, cities were divided into metropolitan cities and provinces, autonomous districts, autonomous cities, and autonomous counties. The evaluation comprehensively assessed sustainability by analyzing three categories?Citizen Happiness City, Innovative Future City, and Life-Friendly City?using 88 indicators.
County Governor Lee Seunghwa said, "It is very meaningful that the policies we have pursued for a sustainable future have been recognized, despite the difficult circumstances of regional depopulation," adding, "We will continue to do our best to make Sancheong a sustainable county where the economy, society, and environment are in balance and harmony."
