Skonec Entertainment (CEO Park Woncheol, hereafter Skonec) announced on July 16 that its new VR horror adventure game "Who's at the Door" will be officially released worldwide on July 18 via the Steam platform, which is used by hundreds of millions of gamers in over 200 countries, including Korea.
"Who's at the Door" is a psychological suspense adventure game set in a small, dilapidated Korean apartment from the 1990s, experienced from the perspective of a character suffering from schizophrenia. The game offers immersive gameplay in which players solve various puzzles and uncover hidden secrets within a space where reality and hallucination, past and present, are intertwined. Its main features include high-quality graphics based on Unreal Engine 5, a hyper-realistic horror atmosphere that authentically recreates a 1990s Korean apartment, and a psychological suspense story that allows players to experience the boundary between reality and hallucination from the perspective of a person with schizophrenia.
An intriguing aspect of the game is its complex narrative and multi-ending structure, where the outcome changes based on player choices, maximizing immersion and providing an interactive, tension-filled experience.
A Skonec representative stated, "'Who's at the Door' is the result of combining Skonec's years of accumulated XR technology with a deep understanding of the suspense genre. It is more than a simple VR horror game, as it incorporates both psychological immersion and narrative enjoyment. Starting with this title, Skonec aims to further solidify its presence in the global VR market and actively establish a revenue structure."
At the global game trial event "Steam Next Fest" held in June, "Who's at the Door" ranked in the top 30 among more than 2,200 titles in terms of demo plays, placed in the top 3 in the walking simulation genre, and within the top 20 in the adventure genre. The number of players exceeded 11,000, and 95% of user reviews were positive.
Notably, even without separate advertising, the demo version organically went viral on global platforms such as YouTube. The bold theme of mental illness and the mysterious storyline stimulated users' desire to interpret the game, leading popular streamers to compete in producing playthrough and commentary content, which have garnered hundreds of thousands of views.
This strong response has translated into tangible results, with more than 10,000 registrations on the Steam wishlist, demonstrating the high level of anticipation for the game. After the official launch, Skonec plans to actively carry out SNS short-form marketing, influencer review collaborations, and global UA (User Acquisition) advertising. The company also plans to participate in "Scream Fest," a Halloween horror game festival hosted by Steam in October, aiming to simultaneously expand sales and enhance brand awareness.
Recently, Skonec has been stabilizing revenues in the B2B XR solutions market, including defense, public safety, and education, while also beginning to see visible results in the B2C game market. In the second half of this year, the company is preparing to launch a new VR adventure title, "Traveler," as well.
Park Woncheol, CEO of Skonec, said, "Until now, our focus has been on technology investment and securing talent, so R&D has taken precedence over profit. However, starting this year, we are moving toward establishing a full-fledged revenue structure based on our existing investments. We plan to complete capital raising, including a paid-in capital increase, by the end of this month. With revenues now coming in from games, defense, and XR solutions, turning a profit is also becoming a reality."
