About 40 Participants from 10 Asia-Pacific Countries and 4 Related Organizations
The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA) announced that it will hold a workshop from July 16 to 18, 2025, at Hotel Naru Seoul MGallery in Mapo-gu, Seoul, in collaboration with the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the International Association of National Public Health Institutes (IANPHI), to strengthen surveillance capabilities in preparation for future pandemics in the Asia-Pacific region.
Approximately 40 representatives from health authorities of 10 Asia-Pacific countries, including Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, and Australia, as well as the European Union CDC, the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), and the ASEAN Center for Public Health Emergencies and Emerging Diseases (ACPHEED), will participate in this workshop.
The participants plan to share the current status and case studies of infectious disease and epidemiological data collection and utilization in each country, and to explore response strategies and directions for strengthening pandemic surveillance systems.
After sharing examples of disease surveillance systems and data-driven public health crisis responses established by each country, they will also discuss how to further develop surveillance systems in the future, and how to facilitate cooperation between countries during this process.
The KDCA stated, "This workshop is an opportunity to exchange insights for the development of practical surveillance policies in preparation for future pandemics," and added, "We hope it will provide substantial support for strengthening pandemic preparedness capabilities in the Asia-Pacific region."
