Kang Sunwoo, nominee for Minister of Gender Equality and Family, is speaking at the confirmation hearing held on the 14th by the National Assembly's Gender Equality and Family Committee.
The People Power Party announced on the 15th that it had submitted a petition to the Seoul Southern District Office of Employment and Labor against Kang Sunwoo, nominee for Minister of Gender Equality and Family, on charges of workplace harassment and retaliatory abuse of power.
Joo Jinwoo, chairman of the People Power Party's Legal Advisory Committee, stated, "There have been specific testimonies and multiple media reports alleging that Representative Kang repeatedly and continuously engaged in workplace harassment against her aides during her term as a member of the 21st National Assembly."
He further emphasized, "There is a potential violation of Article 76-3, Paragraph 6 of the Labor Standards Act," and added, "Workplace harassment and retaliatory abuse of power are not merely personnel issues, but rather matters of human rights violations within a constitutional institution."
He also added, "We plan to review separate legal action regarding the fact that Kim Minki, Secretary General of the National Assembly, who is considered the employer by the National Assembly Secretariat, failed to conduct an objective investigation despite being aware of indications of workplace harassment."
